Long Lines for Chocolate Shop May Sale
A long line of customers await entry on owners Gae and Deane Richardson's last business day.
Ten minutes after opening at eleven o’clock, the waiting line for The Marion Chocolate Shop’s Saturday sale stretch up Seventh Avenue around the corner and half way down Twelfth Street.
This is owner Gae Richardson and her husband Deane’s last day open for business before new owners assume store operations on June 12th.
For the past few months, the Richardsons’ spent a few weeks preparing truffles, sea salt caramels and other assorted sweets before opening one Saturday a month to sell their products. Sales were brisk with some offerings completely sold out by closing time.
Less than an hour and a half into today’s opening both the cherry cordials and cherry mountains were already gone. Sea Salt caramels were popular too with one customer purchasing ten boxes.
For seventeen years, The Chocolate Shop has been a fixture in Uptown Marion and will remain a popular stop for the foreseeable future.
